Manufacturing has been, and still is, the lifeblood of the Hoosier State. According to an article published by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, one-fourth of Indiana’s current annual economic output is in manufacturing, accounting for nearly $35 billion in exported goods. One in every five Indiana workers is employed in advanced manufacturing and maintaining that level of productivity will require highly skilled people. In our part of Indiana, there are employment opportunities in a variety of fields, including vehicle manufacturing, as well as the training needed to prepare tomorrow’s workforce.
Indiana is home to the world’s most famous auto race — the Indianapolis 500 — and the automotive industry has been a major part of the state’s economy for well over a century. Today, the state ranks second is the nation in motor vehicle production, with Fort Wayne’s General Motors plant among the reasons for that. Approximately 116,000 Hoosiers have jobs in the automotive sector, working in major assembly facilities and for hundreds of parts suppliers.
